Before I had graduated from college, both my brother and sister produced perfect families of five. Roughly translated, I am the baby (see also: accident). After graduating from college I decided that a seemingly infinite amount of debt sounded like a challenge, so I delayed entering the real world for one last taste of academia in law school.
When able to escape the law-brary, I enjoy...
1.SLEEP. Proper rest requires at least six pillows, a duvet, and an unobstructed fling of my left arm to a snooze button. Because of my love for sleep, I’ve developed an obsession with linens, especially vintage chenille bedspreads and sheets with bold patterns (because I swear gingham will come back in!)
2.MUSIC. Far too much of my money and time is spent buying, reading, watching or sharing music. Although I am technically savvy enough to commit musical thievery - I am afraid of the RIAA and am vehemently opposed to stealing the artistic works of others. I’ve started a local group called “515 Mix Tape Club”. We meet every other month to share music and network with each other.
3.FOOD. When I am stressed I like to cook, and appreciate exploring all the corners of Des Moines’ culinary world. I hold a weekly “family” dinner for my friend’s where lots of food is consumed and arguments are had over card games. Popular family dinner menus include casserole night, breakfast for dinner, and chicken pot pie. As you can imagine, invites are coveted!
4.DESIGN. From furniture to clothes, I have a passion for all things well designed. Secretly, I want to be an interior decorator - but don’t tell my parents. My appreciation for detail and planning has created a deep rooted disgust for suburbs, SUVs, and Starbucks. Andres Duany has inspired me to think hard and long about the way we design our communities.
The short story, long:
